Lakshadweep Island Stay vs Ship Package: Compare

Lakshadweep packages can use two very different accommodation formats. One keeps you on an island overnight. Another keeps you onboard a passenger ship and uses islands as daytime stops. A package title alone does not tell you which one you are buying.

The Administration’s accommodation page explicitly says that certain packages provide overnight accommodation onboard the ship and serve food ashore during day visits.

Current Samudram warning

The SPORTS homepage carries a notice dated 18 August 2026 stating that the Samudram package will not be available until further directions because of ongoing maintenance and incomplete dry-docking of the ship.

The Administration’s general tourist-packages page still describes Samudram as a five-day cruise covering Kavaratti, Kalpeni and Minicoy. These two official pages must be read together. One describes the product format. The newer live notice describes its current service position.

Do not treat a descriptive package page as proof that a departure can be booked.

When an island stay makes sense

An island stay is the clearer fit when the accommodation itself is central to the trip and the whole arrival and return chain is available. Confirm:

• the exact island and property;
• room category and number of nights;
• meals and taxes;
• mainland arrival sector;
• onward and return island transfers;
• permit support and charges;
• cancellation and disruption terms.

When a ship package makes sense

A ship format can connect several daytime island visits without separate hotel bookings on each island. It also makes the ship, cabin and sailing the centre of the trip.

Ask for the current vessel, cabin class, embarkation point, reporting time, every island call, time ashore, included meals and activities, permit process, baggage conditions and cancellation terms.

Compare the complete price, not the package heading

The useful number is the payable total for the same travellers and dates. It should identify transport, accommodation, meals, activities, taxes, permit charges and compulsory additions. If one quotation excludes a sector that another includes, the headline prices are not comparable.
