Reconfirm before booking. A child's age can be treated differently by the permit portal, transport, accommodation, package and activity provider. Confirm each rule separately.
Planning Lakshadweep with children requires more than adding a child fare to an adult itinerary. Age bands, room occupancy, activity rules and permit charges may be different parts of the booking, and the public sources do not establish one rule that covers them all.

Make one child information record
For each child, record the name exactly as shown on the identity document, date of birth and age on each travel date. Use the same details for the permit, transport, stay and activity bookings.
Ask every supplier to state its own infant, child and adult age bands. Do not assume a package’s child definition applies to an airline, room or activity.
Check the permit fee screen
The ePermit fee page publishes:
- ₹50 application fee for each applicant;
- ₹100 heritage fee for children aged 12 to 18;
- ₹200 heritage fee for people above 18.
The page does not publish a heritage-fee amount for children below 12. Do not turn that absence into a zero-fee claim. Check the live application and save the receipt for the amount charged.
The portal also says sponsorship and Police Clearance Certificate upload are no longer required for tourist-category applications. Recheck the portal before applying because the process can change.
Confirm how the child will sleep
Ask the accommodation or package provider to write down:
- exact room category;
- permitted adult and child occupancy;
- existing beds and any extra bed;
- whether a cot or similar arrangement is available, if required;
- whether more than one room is needed;
- every night’s sleeping location;
- meal plan for the child.
Do not infer this from a photograph or the word family. The official accommodation page describes broad stay formats, not live room details for your dates.
Confirm meals precisely
State allergies, vegetarian requirements and foods the child cannot eat. Ask what breakfast, lunch and dinner will be supplied and how transfer-day meals work.
The Administration’s accommodation page says food is provided within the tourism arrangements it describes. That does not prove a particular menu or the handling of a dietary requirement. Use the food guide for a written confirmation list.
Ask for rules activity by activity
For each activity, ask the provider to confirm:
- minimum and maximum age, if any;
- swimming requirement;
- required fitness or medical document;
- equipment sizes available;
- supervision arrangement;
- parent or guardian participation rule;
- cancellation rule if the child cannot participate.
SPORTS currently states that its scuba-diving course requires swimming skills, a doctor’s fitness certificate and a minimum age of 14. This is evidence for the course described by SPORTS only. It is not a general rule for snorkelling, boating or another operator’s product.
Verify medical access for your child’s needs
The Administration’s directory lists government hospitals on Kavaratti and Minicoy, community health centres on Agatti, Amini and Andrott, primary health centres on Chetlat, Kadmat, Kalpeni and Kiltan, and a first-aid centre on Bitra.
Those labels and contacts do not establish paediatric coverage, medicines, diagnostics, opening hours or emergency transport for your dates. If the child has a specific health need, contact the relevant facility and ask the stay and transport providers how that need can be supported. Use the medical-planning guide for the current directory link.
Keep the route easy to verify
Avoid adding an island only because a seller describes the transfer as likely. Confirm both directions for every child and adult, including passenger names and baggage terms.
The family itinerary uses one confirmed base instead of inventing daily island transfers. The family package guide helps compare a bundled quotation.
Questions to send before paying
Send one message covering the gaps:
- What age band will you use for this child in each transport, room and activity?
- What room occupancy and bedding are confirmed?
- Which meals and dietary requirements are confirmed?
- Which activities can the child join, under what current rules?
- What amount will be charged for the permit application?
- Which medical facility contact applies to the island, and what has the provider confirmed?
- What refund applies if an age or participation rule prevents use of an inclusion?
Save the written answers with the booking documents.
Common questions
What age is treated as a child in Lakshadweep?
There is no single rule across permits, transport, rooms, packages and activities. Ask each supplier to state the age band used for the exact booking.
What permit fee applies to a child?
The current fee page publishes ₹50 per applicant and a ₹100 heritage fee for ages 12 to 18. It does not state a heritage fee below 12, so check the live application rather than inferring an amount.
Can children do water activities?
Ask the named provider for the current minimum age, swimming requirement, equipment, supervision and health conditions. An island page mentioning an activity does not prove child participation.
What medical facilities are available?
The Administration publishes a directory of facility categories and contacts on named islands. It does not establish the current capabilities needed by a particular child, so contact the relevant facility and provider before booking.
