Lakshadweep Family Trip: Practical Planning Guide

A Lakshadweep family trip is not one booking. It is a chain of permits, mainland transport, island transfers, accommodation, meals and activities. The practical question is not whether an island looks family-friendly. It is whether the whole chain is confirmed for every adult and child travelling.

Start with one family booking sheet

List every traveller exactly as shown on their identity document. Add each person’s date of birth and age on the travel date. Give this same list to the permit, transport, stay and package providers.

Do not assume that every supplier uses the same meaning of infant, child or adult. Ask each supplier to state the age band used for its fare, room occupancy and activity rules.

Build the route before choosing activities

The Administration’s How to Reach page identifies Kochi as the gateway and describes flights and passenger ships. It also identifies Agatti as the island with the airstrip. That does not establish a live flight, ship or onward-boat schedule for your dates.

Write the route as separate confirmed sectors:

1. home city to the mainland gateway;
2. mainland gateway to Lakshadweep;
3. arrival pickup;
4. onward island transfer, if required;
5. return island transfer;
6. Lakshadweep to the mainland;
7. connection home.

For each sector, record the supplier, date, traveller names, baggage terms and cancellation conditions. Use the how-to-reach guide for the route sequence, not for a copied timetable.

Confirm the room for the whole family

The Administration describes island and onboard accommodation, but its public page is not a live room inventory. A label such as family package does not establish the property, room size, beds or occupancy limit.

Ask for written confirmation of:

• the exact property and island;
• the room category;
• the number and type of beds;
• the permitted adult and child occupancy;
• any extra-bed arrangement;
• every night’s sleeping location;
• check-in and check-out dates;
• the cancellation and disruption terms.

Match the permit to the itinerary

The ePermit portal states that sponsorship is no longer required for tourist-category applications and that a Police Clearance Certificate does not need to be uploaded for that category. Its fee page publishes a ₹50 application fee for each applicant, a ₹100 heritage fee for ages 12 to 18 and ₹200 for people above 18.

The published fee page does not state a heritage-fee amount for children below 12. Check the live application for the amount applicable to the child instead of inferring it.

Use the entry-permit guide and make sure the names, dates and islands agree with the booked route.

Put meals in the quotation

Do not rely on a general promise that food is included or child-friendly. Ask the stay or package provider to confirm breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinking water and any transfer-day meals.

For vegetarian, Jain, vegan, allergy-related or restricted diets, state exactly what must be excluded and ask whether the request can be handled for every meal. The food-planning guide has a message template you can send before paying.

Treat activities as separate decisions

An official island or package page may describe an activity without establishing that it operates on your dates or is suitable for your child. Ask for the current minimum age, swimming requirement, equipment, supervision, medical condition and cancellation rule for each named activity.

SPORTS currently says its scuba-diving course requires swimming skills, a doctor’s fitness certificate and a minimum age of 14. That is a rule for the course described on the SPORTS portal. Do not apply it to another product, and do not assume another operator has the same rule.

Check medical access without guessing capability

The Administration publishes a current directory of government hospitals, community health centres, primary health centres and a first-aid centre across named islands. A directory category does not prove the services, staff, medicines or opening hours available for your family’s dates.

If a traveller has a specific medical requirement, use the medical-planning guide to identify the relevant official contact and ask whether that need can be handled. Also ask the transport and stay providers how they manage the requirement. Do not depend on an assumed evacuation route.

Keep the first plan simple

A family itinerary with one confirmed island and a protected return is more defensible than a multi-island plan containing an unconfirmed transfer. Add another island only when the room, transport and permit chain is complete.

Final family booking check

Do not pay until you can answer yes to each item:

• Every traveller’s name and age are correct.
• Every transport sector has a supplier and confirmation.
• Every night has a named property or cabin.
• Room occupancy and bedding are written down.
• Meals and dietary requirements are confirmed.
• The permit route matches the booked islands and dates.
• Every paid activity has a current age and participation rule.
• Relevant medical contacts and provider responses are saved.
• Cancellation and disruption terms are available in writing.
