First Lakshadweep Trip: Verified Planning Checklist

A first Lakshadweep trip is easier to plan when you treat it as one connected booking instead of separate flight, hotel and activity purchases.

Step 1: decide the arrival format

The Administration identifies Kochi as the gateway for tourist travel and describes both flights and passenger ships. Agatti is the island with the airstrip. Passenger-ship journeys and tourism packages use different island and sleeping arrangements.

Start by checking what can actually be booked for your dates. Do not build the rest of the plan around an old timetable.

Step 2: shortlist only connected islands

Use the best-island guide to compare Agatti, Bangaram, Kadmat and Kavaratti. The right shortlist depends on the arrival format, current accommodation evidence and a confirmed return sector.

Foreign nationals should check the current visitor-island rule before choosing. The Administration’s Places of Interest page says foreign tourists are permitted to visit Agatti, Bangaram and Kadmat after permit.

Step 3: establish where every night is spent

The Administration explains that some tourism products provide accommodation onboard a ship, while others use island cottages or tourist huts.

Ask the booking source to list each date and sleeping location. “Kavaratti package” can mean an island stay or a daytime visit within a ship itinerary. Those are not the same product.

Step 4: confirm the complete route

Write the trip as separate sectors:

1. home city to gateway;
2. gateway to Lakshadweep;
3. arrival pickup;
4. onward island transfer, if any;
5. return island transfer;
6. Lakshadweep to gateway;
7. gateway to home city.

Record the supplier, date and confirmation for each sector. If a sector is described as subject to availability, it is not yet confirmed.

Step 5: match the permit

The Administration publishes an entry-permit portal and official permit documents. Use the permit guide to check the current process.

The traveller names, dates and islands in the booking chain should match the permit application and issued permit. Do not assume a permit for one itinerary automatically covers a later change.

Step 6: compare inclusions

Ask for a written total that separates:

• transport sectors;
• room or cabin;
• meals;
• permit support and charges;
• included activities;
• optional activities;
• taxes and compulsory fees;
• cancellation and disruption rules.

Step 7: add activities last

Official island and package pages mention activities such as swimming, snorkelling, kayaking, glass-bottom boating and scuba diving on selected products and islands. A description does not prove current operation or suitability for a particular traveller.

Confirm the operator, date, safety requirements, age or medical conditions, equipment and cancellation terms directly with the booking source.

A safer first-trip shape

Keep the trip within the sectors that are already confirmed. A single-island plan with a secure return is better than a multi-island plan containing an assumed boat.

Planning a first family trip

For a family, add one passenger table with every traveller’s date of birth and age on the travel date. Ask the room, transport, permit and activity providers to state which age band they use instead of assuming one child rule applies throughout the trip.
