5-Day Lakshadweep Itinerary — Agatti & Bangaram

5-day Lakshadweep itinerary combining Agatti and Bangaram. Day-by-day plan, activities, costs, and practical travel tips for first-time visitors.

This is the trip I recommend most often when someone asks me about a first-time Lakshadweep visit. Five days. Two islands. Enough diving or snorkeling to be meaningful. Enough downtime to not feel hurried. A full Bangaram experience without skipping Agatti entirely.

I’ve done this itinerary or variations of it at least four times. It works. The pacing is right, the islands complement each other, and the cost ratio — moderate premium over a pure-Agatti trip for meaningful experience gain — is among the best in Lakshadweep trip planning.

Why the Agatti-plus-Bangaram combo works

Two fundamentally different island experiences with a single 90-minute boat transfer between them. Agatti gives you lived-in village Lakshadweep — shops, mosques, kids playing cricket, fishermen hauling nets at dawn. Bangaram gives you curated resort-island experience — no residents, alcohol at dinner, complete privacy.

Most first-time visitors want both. Doing both in five days is tight but workable. Doing both in seven days is better (see the 7-day itinerary) but if five days is all you have, this works.

The cost math

Back-of-envelope per person for a typical mid-range couple:

Flights Kochi-Agatti roundtrip: ₹18,000

Permit and agent fee: ₹2,000

Agatti Beach Resort 2 nights full board: ₹19,000

Bangaram Boat transfer roundtrip: ₹8,000

Bangaram Beach Resort 2 nights full board: ₹44,000

Activities (one dive, kayak, glass-bottom): ₹7,000

Tips and incidentals: ₹3,000

Total: ₹1,01,000 per person sharing a double.

Trim to ₹65,000 by switching Agatti Beach Resort to SPORTS hut (₹13,000 savings) and skipping the dive in favour of longer snorkels.

Go up to ₹1,30,000 by upgrading Bangaram to a larger cottage (₹25,000 more) and doing a full dive package (₹25,000 more).

Day-by-day in detail

Day 1: Agatti arrival

You’re tired. You’ve been up since 3am to catch the 5:45am flight. Agatti at 7am is warm and bright and you’re hit with the kind of tropical heat that makes sunglasses feel insufficient.

Transfer to resort. Check in. Breakfast is usually waiting — hot idli, vada, sambar, or a basic continental spread. Eat properly.

The rest of Day 1 should be gentle. Drop your things, change, walk to the beach. A 45-minute casual snorkel. Come back. Shower. Read under a palm. Lunch. Nap.

Don’t dive Day 1. Don’t do the guided boat snorkel Day 1. Don’t try to “make up for lost time” — you haven’t lost any.

Sunset walk if you’ve got energy; bed early either way.

Day 2: Agatti on.full.throttle

The day where Agatti shows its best. Plan:

6:45am wake. Coffee. Pre-breakfast boat snorkel (book with resort the evening before). Boat leaves 7:15am, you’re in the water by 7:40am at a site called the Coral Shelf or similar, drift for 60 minutes, back by 9:15am.

Breakfast. Big breakfast. You’ve earned it.

11:00am — decide between Discover Scuba, glass-bottom boat, or kayak. If you’re a certified diver, a real dive at a deeper site. If you’re a non-diver who wants to see the reef without swimming, glass-bottom. If you want a gentle active morning, kayak.

Lunch at the resort.

Late afternoon walk to the airport-side beach. Watch the daily IndiGo flight come in. Walk back through the village end. Small tea stall on the way.

Dinner at the resort or — if you want variety — a village eating house. The tuna fry at the cooperative stall near the jetty is better than most resort versions and costs a quarter as much.

Pack your Bangaram bag. Write a list of what to grab in the morning.

Day 3: Agatti to Bangaram

Slow morning. You don’t need to be up early. Breakfast around 8am, final beach walk 9am, transfer to Agatti jetty at 9:45am.

The Bangaram boat leaves around 10am. Crossing takes 90 minutes in fair weather, longer if seas are choppy. Bring motion sickness tablets if you’re sensitive. Take a window seat for the approach to Bangaram — the island appears out of water as a long green stripe.

Arrive Bangaram around 11:30am. Check in. The cottages are thatched beach huts, simple but comfortable. Sea-facing rooms cost more and are worth it.

Lunch at the restaurant. Afternoon swim. The house reef is so close you wade out from the beach in ankle-deep water for 100 metres, then it drops to 2 metres of coral. Snorkel for 60-90 minutes.

Resort bar opens around 5pm. This is the first drink of your Lakshadweep trip. For many people, that’s the big moment the trip has been building toward. Enjoy it.

Dinner outdoors if the weather’s right. Early night or late night, your choice — there’s no pressure.

Day 4: Bangaram full day

Best activities day of the trip. Options:

Morning dive. If you’re certified, do Grand Canyon or Wreck Point through the resort dive centre. Certified divers in Lakshadweep’s Bangaram area get some of the best dives of the trip here.

Morning snorkel at house reef for non-divers. The reef outside the main beach has reef sharks (usually blacktips, non-threatening), large schools of fusiliers, occasionally turtles.

Late-morning beach or pool rest. Lunch at the resort.

Afternoon: boat excursion to Tinnakara. About 20 minutes by boat from Bangaram. Small uninhabited island, picnic-style lunch (or afternoon snack) on the beach, snorkel in the channel between Tinnakara and Bangaram, return by mid-afternoon. The channel snorkel is dense with fish.

Back to Bangaram for sunset on the western beach. This is the famous sunset. The light quality is unreasonable. Bring a camera.

Dinner. Bar. Early night if diving tomorrow, late night otherwise.

Day 5: Return

Early morning walk or swim. Breakfast. Check out by 9am.

Boat transfer back to Agatti at 9:30am. Arrive Agatti 11:00am. Transit to airstrip for 11:40am flight.

Arrive Kochi 1:05pm. Trip done.

Variations that work

Dive-focused 5-day

Swap Day 2 activities to all-diving. Swap Day 4 to two tanks on real Bangaram dive sites. Adds ₹10,000-15,000 to the cost but gives you 4-5 actual dives in a 5-day trip. If you’re certified and specifically here to dive, this makes the trip properly worthwhile.

Family-with-kids 5-day

Replace Discover Scuba with glass-bottom boat. Replace outer reef boat snorkel with a gentler lagoon snorkel. Extend all mornings by 60 minutes, all afternoons by 60 minutes — kids need slower pace and more transitions. Bring a lot of sunscreen.

Budget 5-day

Agatti Beach Resort becomes SPORTS hut. Bangaram becomes — no, Bangaram doesn’t really have a budget version. For a true budget 5-day, do 5 days on Agatti with SPORTS hut and local eating. Cuts cost by 50-60% and is a genuinely good trip despite the downgrade, though you lose the alcohol and uninhabited-island aspect.

Honeymoon 5-day

Use the standard itinerary. Upgrade Bangaram to a sea-facing premium cottage. Add one romantic beach dinner (resort arranges; approximately ₹5,000-7,000 extra). Privacy is built in.

The one most important thing

Build weather buffer on your return end. If you’re flying to Mumbai or Delhi or overseas on Day 5 evening, your Kochi-Agatti flight cancelling in the morning destroys both the Lakshadweep trip and your onward travel.

Add one night in Kochi at the end of the trip. ₹4,000-6,000 at a reasonable hotel. This insurance is non-negotiable for most visitors; the cost is trivial relative to what you’re protecting.

Go. Enjoy Bangaram’s bar. Snorkel until you’re tired. Come home pleased.
